Abstract
The reaction of tetrasodium calix[4]arenesulfonate with lead(II) nitrate gi ves a complex with 2:1 metal-ligand stoichiometry. The complex has been cha racterized by elemental and X-ray crystal structure analysis. The latter re veals a layered structure consisting of alternating hydrophilic and hydroph obic layers. All Pb(II) ions have different coordination environments and s how an unusually high degree of hydration in the solid state. (C) 1999 Else vier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
