The relationship between the crystallisation behaviour and physical ageing
history of poly(ethylene terephthalate) is reported. It is shown that short
term ageing can enhance the subsequent rate of crystallisation, but longer
ageing times can retard the crystallisation process. It is suggested that
physical ageing favours the formation of ordered domains. (C) 1999 Publishe
