The peak effect in the magnetization of Ba1-xKxBiO3+y (x greater than
or equal to 0.33) single crystals has been first found and investigate
d by means of a vibrational sample magnetometer at the applied field u
p to 6 T over the temperature range from 4.2 to 25 K. The location and
width of the peak is determined by the temperature and annealing proc
ess in various media. The data obtained show that the anomalous magnet
ization may be caused by the additional pinning of vortices by the reg
ions with overstoichiometric oxygen content.
