Implementation of the Unicorn library management system at Reading University Library

Reading University Library installed a Sirsi Unicorn library management sys tem in 1997, This paper provides a discussion of the impact of implementing such a client/server system and describes some of the new features offered : Electronic Data Interchange, automatic e-mailing of system-generated noti ces, holds and recalls and so on. The impact of the new system on staff wit hin the library and with Other university departments is also discussed. Th e paper concludes with a list of future projects planned and overall impres sions of the system.
