Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine manner of inheritance, heritabil ity, heterosis and inbreeding in burley tobacco for days to flowering, topp ing height, number of leaves, yield and grade index. Four parental cultivar s and their F-1, F-2, Bc(1) and Bc(2) progenies were studied in a four-year experiment carried out in the Northern Western Croatia. The experiment was organized as a RCBD with four replications. Larger nonadditive, than addit ive, variance was found for all the studied trails. Rather high values of h (b)(2) were determined for almost all the traits whereas h(n)(2) was very l ow. Positive heterosis in F-1 was found for topping height, number of leave s and yield, and negative for days to flowering and grade index. Also in F- 2, inbreeding was found for all the traits for which the positive heterosis in F-1 was found. Distribution of parental genotypes along the expected re gression line showed generic divergence of the parental cultivars. The high est number of dominant genes was found for the TN 86 and of recessive for t he BL1 and Hy 71.
