Abstract
The reaction of 2,3-dihydro-1,3-diisopropyl-4,5-dimethylimidazol-2-ylidene (5) with CO2 gives the imidazolium-2-carboxylate 6. The compound can be tra nsformed into the salts of its corresponding Broenstedt acid 8. The cationi c acid chloride 10a is obtained from 6 and thionyl chloride. Chemical prope rties and spectroscopic data indicate 6 to be less basic than its anionic c ounterparts, e.g. PhCO2-. The X-ray structure of 6 is reported.
