Abstract
During chemotherapy and after relapse several types of operations are used in ovarian cancer: secondary cytoreductive surgery, interval cytoreductive surgery, second-look surgery, and palliative secondary surgery. The role of these operations has been difficult to define because there is considerabl e variation in the patterns of behaviour of tumours among those with persis tent or recurrent disease. The definitions, indications and impact of these procedures are reviewed.
