The discovery of a new Late Miocene mammalian site named Perivolaki is repo
rted from the area of Velestinon (Thessaly, central Greece), and a prelimin
ary dating of the deposits is provided. The Neogene-Quaternary deposits of
the area consist mainly of sandy and argillaceous sediments with intercalat
ions of sandstones or conglomerates, of fluviolacustrine-fluvial origin. Fo
ur lithostratigraphic units are distinguished. The determined mammalian fau
na suggests an Early-Middle Turolian age (MN 11-12). ((C) Academie des scie
