This paper describes both fundamentals and applications using FIDAP to solv
e metal solidification problems. A brief discussion of the relationships be
tween phase diagrams and latent heat formulations is given,followed by a de
scription of methods for handling solidification and fluid flow. Examples w
ill be given to demonstrate both laboratory and commercial applications. Fi
nally, a description is given of work linking FIDAP with sensitivity analys
is and optimization.
