Abstract
One hundred penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae (PRSP) strains fr om Asia, Europe, and North America were analyzed using pulsed-field gel ele ctrophoresis; fingerprinting of penicillin binding protein (pbp) genes; and BOX PCR. Re-stilts show that six PFGE patterns (three patterns comprising greater than or equal to 2 serotypes) were found widespread and accounted f or 64 of the 100 PRSP strains.
