Abstract
The aim of the present work is to overcome the limitations of the stan dard IE-E model with respect to turbulent flows of the Couette-Poiseui lle type. This model is known to fail far the prediction of turbulent kinetic energy in Couette-type flows as well as the prediction of nega tive production of turbulent kinetic energy in asymmetric Poiseuille-t ype pouts. In Couette-type flows improvement is achieved via the refor mulation of the gradient diffusion approach and in Poiseuille-type pou ts the application of an extended eddy-diffusivity approach for the tu rbulent shear stresses leads to results which agree fairly well with m easurements.
