The destruction of cellulose by the action of fast electrons was studied. T
he irradiation conditions for realization of the high-temperature mode of d
estructive decomposition of the polymer without using additional heat sourc
es were determined. Cellulose was heated up to 430 K at the, dose rate of 9
.0 kGy/s or higher and the total absorbed dose of 300 kGy. Under these cond
itions, the radiation-chemical yield of scission considerably increases and
is much higher than the corresponding yield at room temperature.
