Next-generation wireless data services: Architecture and experience

Wireless data promises useful services and great convenience. The many tech nological and economical obstacles that have been hampering its growth are slowly being overcome. In this article we first explain our vision of what next-generation wireless data services may look like. Then we present the d ifferent elements of a base architecture designed to support the common req uirements and features, As an example, we describe our initial experience i n implementing a wireless data server prototype at Bell Laboratories.
