S. Reese, ELASTOPLASTIC MATERIAL BEHAVIOR WITH LARGE ELASTIC AND LARGE PLASTIC-DEFORMATIONS, Zeitschrift fur angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 77, 1997, pp. 277-278
Many materials, e.g. steel, exhibit large plastic deformations but onl
y small elastic deformations. This is not the case, however, for certa
in A inds of polymers and rubbers, which suffer plastic flow after lar
ge elastic deformation. rn most preview investigations of such materia
ls, particularly for rubber, the plastic material behaviour was neglec
ted, although the kinds of rubber exhibiting little or no plastic defo
rmation are not those wed in practical applications, Especially rubber
s with a high tensile strength and resistance to aging show noticeable
hysteresis effects under quasistatic loading. In this work an algorit
hm is formulated which accounts for isotropic elastoplastic problems w
ith large elastic and large plastic deformations. In order to guarante
e realistic calculations, the material model was fit to a set of exper
iments. The necessity to incorporate large elastic strains is document
ed by a numerical example.
