Global ERG recordings are only modified in conditions with diffuse or exten
sive retinal involvement.
The use, over the last 6 months, of a new functionnal testing device: VERIS
(visual evoked response imaging system) allows accurate detection and quan
tification of localized retinal function defects.
Our preliminary experience shows that a careful preparation of subjects, st
andardized testing protocoles and a good understanding of the device techno
logy especially software parameters are mandatory.
We report our results on a series of 28 normal volunteers, grouped by age a
nd describe the various graphic presentation of data collected. This techno
logy should allow accurate detection and quantification of retinal function
nal defects in patients with age related macular degeneration as well as ev
aluation of visual function in retinitis pigmentosa patients before and aft
er photoreceptor transplantation.
