Results of micromagnetic investigations at Kal phi peninsula are presented
and discussed. We developed a technique to calculate the optimum sensor con
figuration based on a given grid spacing. This configuration guarantees a m
aximum spatial resolution while minimizing the influence of near-surface no
ise and discretization effects. It is demonstrated how to incorporate a pri
ori information based on the operators assessment of the state of knowledge
. Surface findings and excavation results were classified as hard boundary
conditions for the interpretation. All remote sensing data and interpretati
on results of prior investigations were regarded as still having a higher d
egree of uncertainty. Apart from the application of standard filtering and
image processing techniques to magnetic data, other processing procedures s
uch as inverse modeling were applied. An image of the urban plan of the are
a under study is finally presented. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All righ
