The top-seeded growth of BiB3O6 from a stoichiometric melt is reported. Par
ameters investigated include the redetermination of the B2O3 - rich part of
the binary phase diagram Bi2O3-B2O3 by means of DTA, seed direction, cooli
ng rate, rotation and pulling rate. With the use of the new phase diagram a
nd careful control of the above parameters clear crystals of high optical g
rade have been grown with dimensions of 20 x 20 x 30 mm(3). (C) 1999 Elsevi
