Abstract
The synthesis of cordierite monolithic honeycombs by solid state reaction a t high temperature of alumina, kaolin, talc and silica has been studied. Th e synthesized honeycombs have been characterized by DTA and XRD. The crysta l composition of the samples have been observed to be very dependent on tem perature and time of reaction. Thermal treatment of the monolithic precurso rs at 1400 degrees C for 30 minutes allows formation of high purity cordier ite with high crystallinity, maintaining the desired monolithic structure o f the honeycombs.
