Abstract
A number of steroidal hydroxy esters have been synthesized by the palladium -catalyzed carbonylation of the corresponding 16,17-unsaturated substrates in the presence of diols. The reaction takes place in a highly chemo- and r egioselective manner and the new compounds obtained may serve as starting m aterials for further functionalization of the steroidal skeleton.
