This paper describes the main characteristics of the Brit UV spectrometer i
n the spectral region 135-369 nm, which operated on the Spektr module of th
e Mir orbital complex from 6/25/95 to 5/25/97, when the latter ceased to fu
nction, in connection with an accident when docking the cargo satellite to
the Spektr module. Preliminary measured data concerning the radiation of th
e daytime disks of the earth and moon are analyzed. (C) 1999 The Optical So
