Abstract
A new chromium thiophosphate Cr-4(P2S6)(3) was synthesized by solid state r eaction between Na4P2S6. 6H(2)O and CrCl3. 6H(2)O at room temperature rathe r than by the ceramic method. The product was characterized by means of XRD , Raman spectroscopy, and magnetic measurements. XRD shows that Cr-4(P2S6)( 3), isostructural with Ga-4(P2S6)(3), crystallizes in the monoclinic system with a = 0.8692(5) nm, b = 0.7562(6) nm, c = 0.8344(6) nm, and beta = 91.9 7(7)degrees. The Raman spectrum bears the characteristic peaks for the P2S6 4- anion group. Magnetic susceptibility data reveal the existence of a d(3) Cr(3+) cation, These results correspond to the charge balance Cr-4(3+)(P24S62-)(3). (C) 1999 Academic Press.
