Abstract
The chromomycin A(3)(CMA) and 4'-6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) chromoso me banding patterns of peach (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch) (2n=16) were dete rmined on root tips of open- pollinated seedlings of three cultivars: 'Ohat sumomo','Akatsuki', and 'Momo daigi tsukuba 4 gou'('Tsukuba No. 4'). Root t ips were pretreated in 2 mM 8-hydroxyquinoline at 10 degrees C for 4 hr; th e chromosome samples were prepared by the enzymatic maceration and air-dryi ng method. CMA positive (+) and DAPI negative (-) bands were observed in th e satellite position of two chromosomes, terminal position of two chromosom es, and proximal position of two chromosomes. Ten chromosomes did not have any CMA + /DAPI - band. The number and positions of CMA + /DAPI - bands wer e stable, and there was no difference among the seedlings from the three cu ltivars. No CMA - /DAPI + band was observed.
