Abstract
Neutral palladium carbonyl complexes in NaX and NaY zeolites were prepared via the direct carbonylation of [Pd(NH3)(4)](2+) complexes at room temperat ure using the ability of noble-metal complexes to catalyze the low-temperat ure water-gas shift reaction for the reduction of metal cations. The kineti cs of carbonylation as well as decarbonylation processes were monitored by in situ FTIR spectroscopy. Both reactions are faster in NaX than in NaY. Th e higher reactivity in NaX is attributed to the higher density of charges a s compared to NaY. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
