The infrared spectrum of chloroform in the region of the parallel fundament
al band nu(3) around 367 cm(-1) has been measured with a Fourier spectromet
er at a resolution of 0.001 cm(-1). An isotopically pure sample of (CHCl3)-
Cl-35 was used. More than 5000 lines were assigned in the nu(3) band. A rea
nalysis of the ground state constants was performed by combining 1671 combi
nation differences from this work, 712 differences from a previous study of
the nu(2) band, and 80 millimetre wave lines from the literature. In the a
nalysis of the nu(3) band, a model of an unperturbed symmetric top band was
applied. The data were fitted with a standard deviation of 0.18 x 10(-3) c
m(-1), and the following leading parameters were obtained: nu(0) = 367.2955
50(8) cm(-)1, B-3 - B-0 = -77.058(4) x 10(-6) cm(-1) and C-3 - C-0 = -18.60
0(11) x 10(-6) cm(-1). In addition, several hot bands have been studied. Th
e isotopic effects were studied also by analysing spectra of the isotopical
ly natural sample.
