Optical measurement of time periodic surface deformations

We discuss a heterodyne interferometric technique for measuring small surfa ce deformations (<1/100 mu m) as irradiance distributions. This technique u ses the principles of phase contrast interferometry. In order to verify exp erimentally the proposed method, an acoustic periodic wave was induced in a mirror-like thin object to produce the surface deformation.
