Abstract
Caffeine was found to inhibit oviposition in shot-hole borer beetle (Xylebo rus fornicatus) of tea (Camellia sinensis) in laboratory culture media. Caf feine also delayed the appearance of the different developmental stages in the life cycle, but apparently did not have a lethal effect on the beetle. The inhibitory effect of caffeine on the beetle was partially reduced in th e presence of the polyphenol tannic acid. (C) 1999 Published by Elsevier Sc ience Ltd. All rights reserved.
