Interactions between carbon black and polymer are one of the most important
mechanisms of carbon black reinforcement, often measured as bound rubber.
The influence of pressure and temperature on bound rubber have been investi
gated for a low cis-1,4,-polybutadiene filled with 45 phr N220 carbon black
. It was demonstrated that elevated pressure and temperature increases the
amount of bound rubber, and also the gravimetric density of the samples. Th
is shows that polymer can penetrate carbon black to a greater extent if tem
perature and pressure are increased. PRCPA/1500 (C) 1998 The Institute of M
