Embedded microprocessor control systems for use in laboratory set-ups are i
ncreasingly replaced by systems using a personal computer. Various graphic
programming software packages promise even non-computer scientists a simple
generation of control software with a professional graphical user Interfac
e. LabView from National Instruments is presented as an example for such a
programming environment. Its advantages and limitations are discussed. (C)
