Abstract
Objectives: In a retrospective study we evaluated the effect of the fascial sling procedure and Burch colposuspension on recurrent stress urinary inco ntinence (SUI) in our patients. Methods: 39 women with a mean age of 54 years underwent a fascial sling pro cedure or combination of fascial sling procedure and Burch colposuspension for recurrent SUI. 33/39 women were evaluated with a mean follow-up of 31 m onths. Evaluation included, chart review and a questionnaire regarding symp toms of incontinence and micturition disorders. In 15/33 patients, postoper ative urodynamic evaluation was performed. Results: 28/33 (84.8 %) patients were completely continent. 4/33 improved a nd one failed. 20/33 (60.6 %) women complained of mictional disorders such as frequency or poor stream. The post-operative urodynamic evaluation demon strated no obstruction. In 2 patients we found residual volumes of about 15 0 ml. We saw 2 lesions of the bladder wall and one ureteric obstruction. Ou r results are compared to the literature. Conclusions: Fascial sling procedure is effective in the treatment of recur rent stress urinary incontinence. In cases of a combination of vertical and rotatoric descensus, we perform the combination of fascial sling procedure and Burch colposuspension. The complication rate is low.
