Introduction: Traumatic rupture of the renal pelvis is a rare event facilit
ated by urinary obstruction.
Case Report: A case of traumatic rupture of the right renal pelvis in a sol
itary kidney is presented. Previously, the patient had untergone urethral v
alve resection, repeated ureterovesical implantations on the right and neph
roureterectomy on the left due to nonfunctional hydronephrosis. The renal p
elvis was easy to close, The obstruction of the solitary kidney was caused
by a compensated, but progressing renal insufficiency with polyuria. The re
sult was a functional obstruction at the ureterovesical junction when the b
ladder was full.
Conclusion: While closure of a ruptured renal pelvis may be easy, treatment
of the unterlying disease may prove difficult as in this case. If a ureter
al stone or stenosis at the ureteropelvic junction causes the obstruction,
treatment is more feasible.
