Abstract
This article examines the economic and cultural construction of Latin Ameri ca as an educational site, using analysis of brochures advertising educatio nal tours, fieldwork in an educational tour organization, and interviews wi th educational travelers in the United States and Mexico. Representations a re manipulated to define Latin America as colorful, exotic, and pristine an d U.S. travelers as omniscient, sophisticated, and invisible.
