The structure and dynamics of the Honeycomb nebula in the Large Magellanic
cloud are modelled as resulting from the interaction of a supernova explosi
on with an existing giant shell of the type commonly found in the LMC. In p
articular, the processes that may have led to the striking morphology and v
elocity structure of this nebula are examined. New data of the Honeycomb ne
bula, are presented. Here, spatially resolved profiles of the [S II] 6716 &
6731 Angstrom density sensitive lines, obtained with the Manchester Echell
e Spectrometer, supplement previous, complementary, H alpha and [N II] 6584
Angstrom profiles.
The agreements and differences between all of these data and this simple mo
del are highlighted.
