An automatic lab-made system involving the use of flow injection analysis (
FIA) was designed and constructed for the determination of sodium, potassiu
m, calcium, and magnesium in parenteral solutions by flame atomic absorptio
n and emission spectrometry. The system carries out the necessary dilutions
and addition of spectroscopic buffers as well as data acquisition under so
ftware control from a personal computer.
Good recoveries, precision and stability were found, suggesting its use for
the automation of quality control of parenteral solutions in the pharmaceu
tical industry.
