Abstract
Humus at 0.5 to 1 mg l(-1) inhibited growth of activated sludge by about 55 % in batch and long-term repeated batch cultures without decreasing sugar u tilization. The growth inhibition was considerable when concentrations of s ubstrates in the medium supplied per unit weight of activated sludge were l ow.
