M. Tarasiewicz et al., Analytical applications of the reactions of 2-and 10-disubstituted phenothiazines with some metal ions, CHEM ANAL, 44(2), 1999, pp. 137-155
Phenothiazines substituted in the 2 acid 10 positions are a large and impor
tant family of tricyclic aromatic compounds. Due to their characteristic st
ructure they exhibit many valuable analytical properties. They form coloure
d oxidation products with many oxidizing agents and the complexes with plat
inum metals. They also react with thiocyanate and halide complexes of metal
s as well as some organic substances, and form ion-association compounds. T
he reactions mentioned above are the basis for utilizing the phenothiazines
as reagents and indicators in chemical analysis. The analytical applicatio
ns of phenothiazines with some metals are described in the presented paper
in details. The paper presents the analytical properties of 2,10- disubstit
uted phenothiazines, describes the reaction of phenothiazines with the oxid
izing agents and the complexing abilities of phenothiazines. The paper is b
ased on a review of the chemical literature up to 1995.
