Abstract
Carbon field emission display (carbon FED) could be an alternative technolo gy for large panel applications. We will first review the advantages and th e requirements of carbon FEDs compared with Other technologies such as spin dt microtips and, more recently, canon surface conduction electron emitters . Key issues will then be presented and illustrated with a pulsed laser dep osition (PLD) carbon film. Based on the deposition parameters optimization, an operating area for FED will be defined. Finally, the first results obta ined with an amorphous carbon cathode will be given and discussed. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
