S. Narukawa et al., Cylindrical lithium primary battery using a Li-Al alloy negative electrodeand a MnO2 positive electrode with high specific surface area, ELECTROCH, 67(1), 1999, pp. 56-59
The MnOz/Li cylindrical cell has been developed using a lithium-aluminum al
loy negative electrode and an electrolytic manganese dioxide positive elect
rode with high specific surface area. The cell capacity at -20 degrees C wi
th the lithium-aluminum negative electrode has retained 90% after stored fo
r 40 days at 60 degrees C,The high retention was explained by no formation
of LiOH on the lithium-aluminum alloy surface in storage, though the format
ion of LiOH was observed in the pure lithium negative electrode. The cell v
oltage on pulse discharge at -20 degrees C was improved by using the electr
olytic manganese dioxide with high specific surface area, and the cell capa
city at -20 degrees C increased about 38% compared with the conventional el
ectrolytic manganese dioxide.
