New pesticide controlled release formulations based on starch were prepared
by injecting a starch-clay-linseed oil slurry containing the herbicide tri
flusulfuron-methyl in a calcium chloride solution. The formulations are sph
erical in shape with a mean diameter of 0.19 cm and are resistant in water
during three months. Pesticide release was evaluated in aqueous medium Comp
lex two phase release kinetics is observed. Mobility was tested in packed s
oil columns; residue analysis in leachates and in soil sections were perfor
med by HPLC and on the basis of a bioassay using lentil plant. The new form
ulations gave considerably slower release and reduced soil mobility in comp
arison with conventional formulations.
