The gaschromatographic analysis of toxaphene and its residues in different
environmental compartments in usual manner is troublesome due to the comple
xity of the technical product. This problem can satisfactorily be overcome
if pure toxaphene congeners are available. During the last years about 50 c
hlorinated terpenes, predominantly high chlorinated bornane derivatives, we
re synthesized or isolated from technical toxaphene or environmental sample
s. In the present work it was able to synthesize low chlorinated bornane an
d dihydrocamphene derivatives and to elucidate their structures with the he
lp of spectroscopical methods.
