Three different humic extracts with distinct physical-chemical characterist
ics obtained from different sources were used to evaluate their antimutagen
ic activity against herbicide maleic hydrazide (MH) in Vicia faba seedlings
.
The results obtained showed that the antimutagenic properties of humic subs
tances, as well as other biological activities, are influenced by their che
mical features and that different mechanisms are probably involved in the a
ntigenotoxic activity of the different humic substances.
