Abstract
The combination of physical methods of soil fractionation together with che mical procedures are used for the characterization of total soil carbohydra tes and individual monosaccharides. The mass distribution in the different soil-size fractions and the associated microbial activity have shown that s oil texture is responsible, more than climate, for the variation of such la bile pool among soils.
