A project in Thessaloniki-Greece was conducted using gasoline vehicles equi
pped with a rare earths (mainly cerium oxide-CeO2) catalytic system. The ma
in idea of this system is to provide the combustion chamber with an adequat
e amount of cerium oxide.(CeO2), without affecting the operational paramete
rs of the engine. The gasoline engine passenger cars were tested for the CO
and HC emissions. These results are correlated with diesel engine vehicles
tests for particulates emissions. Both car categories present important re
duction of the pollutant emissions and fuel consumption.
