Abstract
In this letter, we study the performance of parallel concatenated convoluti onal codes (PCCC) in a Poisson optical channel with on-off keying (OOK) mod ulation. We modify the iterative decoding algorithm to apply PCCC to OOK mo dulation. The simulation results show that the PCCC has significant perform ance improvements over convolutional codes when signal energy is low. There fore, PCCC is well suited for optical channels with signal energy constrain ts. The simulation results also show that the PCCC is still far away from c hannel capacity of Poisson optical channel with OOK modulation.
