Abstract
An algorithm for local tooth fault detection in gearboxes is proposed. The method is based on the assumption that local faults produce a ser ies of impulses in the vibration time response signals. These impulses are detected by a moving window. The method is applied to vibration d ata to detect a broken tooth in a spur gear. The study includes the an alysis of the window function parameters which affect the results. (C) 1997 Academic Press Limited.
