This paper describes the development status of a receiver system for solar
air preheating of gas turbines. The system consists of modules of 350 kW no
minal power, each built from a pressurized volumetric receiver and a second
ary concentrator. It is designed to couple multiple modules together to obt
ain the required power. A brief description of the components construction
is given. In a first test phase the secondary concentrator was evaluated fo
r performance. About 90 h of solar operation were collected with maximum po
wer levels exceeding 400 kW. The design goat were successfully demonstrated
, minor problems occurred with mirror glueing, Significant cost and efficie
ncy improvements could be achieved by more sophisticated geometry and new m
anufacturing techniques. Tests of a complete module are planned for July 19
98.
