Abstract
Hybrid power towers offer a number of advantages over solar-only power towe r systems for early commercial deployment of the technology. These advantag es include enhanced modularity, reduced financial and technical risks, and lower energy costs. With the changes in the domestic and world markets for bulk power, hybrid power towers are likely to have the best opportunities f or power projects. This paper discusses issues that are likely to be import ant to the deployment of hybrid power towers in the near future. A large nu mber of alternative designs are possible, and it is likely that there is no single approach that can be considered best or optimal for all project opp ortunities. The preferred design will depend on the application, as well as the unique objectives and perspectives of the person evaluating the design .
