Experimental results of density, refractive index, and viscosity at 298.15,
303.15, and 308.15 K and the speed of sound at 298.15 K are presented for
the binary mixtures of cyclohexanone with n-alkanes (C-6-C-12) or 2,2,4-tri
methylpentane over the entire range of mixture composition scale. From thes
e data, excess molar volume VE, deviations in molar refraction Delta R, vis
cosity Delta eta, speed of sound Delta u, and isentropic compressibility De
lta k(s) have been calculated. These results are further fit to the Redlich
and Kister (1948) polynomial equation to derive the binary coefficients an
d standard deviations between the calculated and the fit parameters. Furthe
rmore, these results are used to study the nature of intermolecular interac
tions between the mixing components. All the properties have shown a system
atic dependence on the chain length of alkanes.
