Abstract
We derive an asymptotic solution of the Einstein field equations which desc ribes the propagation of a thin, large amplitude gravitational wave into a curved spacetime. The resulting equations have the same form as the collidi ng plane wave equations without one of the usual constraint equations. (C) 1999 American Institute of Physics. [S0022-2488(99)04306-6].
