Abstract
We have investigated the F 1s photoabsorption of a T-d symmetry molecule CF
4 using angle-resolved ion-yield spectroscopy and found that the ionic frag
mentation is anisotropic. With the help of first-principles calculations fo
r the symmetry-resolved F 1s absorption spectrum, the anisotropic fragmenta
tion is interpreted as preferential bond rupture at the F 1s core hole site
due to symmetry breaking, in contrast to the case for CF4 photoabsorption.
