There has been a great deal of recent interest in correlating high sediment
ation rate marine sequences to high frequency climate fluctuations from the
Greenland ice cores. However, conclusions about physical connections betwe
en far-field records and the Greenland cores are often based on subjective
comparisons. The possibility that high-resolution marine records could be i
nfluenced by bioturbation and/or stochastic pubes in sedimentation is also
sometimes insufficiently addressed. It is suggested that a protocol be esta
blished for a mote formal approach to correlating high-frequency events, wi
th the software being made widely available to the research community. Such
an approach should enable the climate community to more objectively assess
claims concerning physical linkages between different regions.
